Earth Day is fast approaching, so now is the perfect time to think about ways that we can reduce the environmental impact of our travel and protect the natural beauty of places like Maui. is hosting an Earth Day Celebration & Plant Sale on Saturday, April 19, complete with entertainment, food, games, and more.
If you’re interested in learning more about our ecosystem or just appreciating the natural splendor of Hawaii, then check out some of these outdoor activities in Maui.
- Haleakala Bike Ride lets visitors cover Maui by bike, reducing the harmful effects of driving pollution. This self-paced bike ride runs from Haleakala volcano to the beach.
- Makena Kayak and Snorkel Tour takes visitors through caves, tunnels, and volcanic arches. You can enjoy the calm and clear waters of Turtle Town, encountering sea turtles, dolphins, tropical fish, and more.
- Maui Ocean Center is the only aquarium in the world devoted to exploring the marine life of Hawaii. This three-acre marine park features the largest reef aquarium in the Western hemisphere.
- Hawaii Nature Center Rainforest Hike and Interactive Museum is nestled in the West Maui Mountains. This nonprofit organization offers visitors guided interpretive hikes and an interactive nature museum.

Though tomorrow’s event is closed to runners, there’s still time to check it out at a spectator. This grueling 36-mile marathon takes long-distance runners up the switchback of Haleakala Crater to its 10,000-foot summit. Running 36 miles isn’t exactly my idea of a vacation, so I think I’ll sit this one out, but I’m sure the views will be stunning (see photo above).

Support your local brewery by heading over to the to see their new additions!
Fellow bloggers over at the published an article about the company, letting us know that they’ve added two 100-barrel tanks and new equipment to the facility. There’s a great demand for their brews and they’re prepared to give the public what they want.
The interesting fact about the equipment is that they purchased it from the now closed Maui Land & Pineapple cannery, which used to can local pineapple. They take great pride in their 100% Hawaiian brews and hope you’ll come and give them a try!

recently published the a listing of the ‘best places to stay in the world, selected by the readers of Conde Nest Traveler.’
in Maui scored a 99.4 and was named best for activities, best for design, and best for location. It was the top-scoring property in the United States, providing a contemporary Hawaiian design with a new art collection added in 2007, plus the culinary delights of Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant.
This is the resort’s third appearance on the Gold List, as it was also featured on the 2005 and 2006 listings.

Maui was named the fourth domestic destination by 507 surveyed travel agents, only after Las Vegas and Orlando, while the third spot was awarded to Honolulu and the ninth to Kaua’i.

Conde Nast Traveler recently confirmed what we’ve known for years - that Maui is the most beautiful, inviting island in the Pacific. Maui was listed as its top island, ahead of Kuai and the Great Barrier Reef Islands. Read the complete list here.
